In 5th grade, announcements always came on before I would switch classes for Reading class. It was always some sort of dumb award for the 8th graders...
So on the day I woke up too late to shower, and slicked my hair back into a nasty ponytail, the announcements came on for the people who won the Citizenship Award. I said, "Great, another stupid 8th grade award"... and then they read my name. I felt like a fool, and wished I had washed my hair that morning. But I still have the pin.
